Frame Day 2

January 30, 2011

Well I managed to get all of the mortises cut today. Because I did not have enough stock I had to cut the rails short – without enough beef for tenons. This meant twice as many mortises and loose tenons to cut. This ended up being a big mistake because cutting extra mortises in white oak was a workout. It does not help that I am a slow newbie! But I guess I get to mark it up to lesson learned. šŸ˜‰ The good news is that everything fit well. One joint was a bit cooked but close enough that it will straighten out in the clamps.

Next up: shaping the outside of the frame.
